How should an expanding brand measure Google and AI search visibility?
Start with a fixed set of real buyer questions for each market and language. Measure Google indexation and search performance separately from AI brand mentions, links to your site, and qualified enquiries. These signals are different; one answer or a short ranking jump does not establish a trend.
Four outcomes that need separate measures
| Signal | What to record | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Indexability | Crawl access, indexing and the selected canonical URL | Search Console Pages and URL Inspection |
| Organic search | Impressions, clicks and relevant queries by country and language | Search Console Search results |
| AI visibility | Brand mentions and clickable links citing your own site | Saved answers, source URLs and dates; Google's AI report where available |
| Business outcome | Qualified enquiries attributable to search or AI referrals | GA4, confirmed form receipts and CRM reconciliation |
The order we use at Bridge
1. Fix the buyer questions and markets
Keep English questions from Australian buyers separate from Chinese questions from the decision team. Record country, language, device, date and exact prompt. Discovery prompts should not contain your brand; test branded prompts in a separate group.
2. Compare search results with AI sources
For the same question, save visible search results and the links cited in each AI answer. Record search appearance, brand mention and linked citation in different columns. Location and personalization can change results, so retain the query context.
3. Audit facts, not keyword density
Check whether the page explains who the service is for, which market it covers, how it works, its limits and the evidence behind case claims. Add missing answers or verifiable sources. An opaque vector score or a mandatory list of 50 entities is not evidence of visibility.
4. Improve pages with a distinct purpose
Give one URL ownership of a complete question family, with a direct answer, examples, sources and relevant service links. Create a separate page only when it gives buyers distinct value; do not mass-produce synonym or city-name variants.
5. Repeat with the same method
Rerun the same prompt set monthly and preserve original answers and citation URLs. If Search Console shows Google's generative AI impressions, compare pages and countries there. That report does not measure ChatGPT or Gemini responses.
A prompt log you can reuse
| Question | Market / language | Search results | AI mention | Site citation | Evidence |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| How should a Chinese brand entering Australia measure SEO and AI search visibility? | Australia / English | Measure first | Measure first | Measure first | Measure first |
A mention names the brand; a citation includes a clickable link to the site. Neither is automatically a recommendation or an enquiry. Choose the prompt set before testing so favorable results are not cherry-picked.
Sources and limits
Google says AI search still builds on foundational SEO, indexable pages and original, helpful content, and warns against scaled near-duplicate pages intended to influence AI answers. Structured data should match visible content. This is Bridge's working method, not a ranking or citation guarantee.
