Eightcap: A four-filter market selection cut Malaysia acquisition cost by 84%
-84%
Malaysia acquisition cost
The challenge
Licence-restricted APAC markets had no direct acquisition channel, Google's financial-services policy had tightened, and most markets lacked the licensing and sales infrastructure to scale a full rollout without burning budget.
Our approach
Markets filtered four ways — licence, policy, sales readiness and timing — with cheap tests finding the lowest-cost markets before scaling spend; search partly shifted to Microsoft Ads and TikTok; Cost/QL held as the single control metric, fed by real CRM events; the Australian Chinese market kept running its seventh season of YouTube.
Results
- Malaysia acquisition cost down 84%, to AUD 86.44
- Canada acquisition cost down 64%
- On the strength of the results, the client's FY27 budget expanded into Malaysia, Hong Kong, Indonesia and Taiwan, committing AUD 382K+ in spend
- Australian Chinese market: seven consecutive YouTube seasons, cost held at AUD 100–300 against an industry benchmark of about AUD 1,000
- A Smart Audience solution also identified new high-potential segments, lifting conversion rate 50%
